Figures and Portraits in Clay - Thursday Evenings
On this 6-week course you can create a clay figure or portrait sculpture, working from a nude life model in an informal group run by sculptor Andrew Spencer. It's suitable for people new to sculpting and working in clay, as well as those with more experience. The classes take place on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm in KIAC's education space. Wheeled sculpture stands are provided so that you can move around the model and work from all angles. Help will be given in preparing the finished work ready for firing in a kiln.
The price of £40 for 6 sessions includes the use of stands, boards and simple armatures, and refreshments during the break. Clay is available to buy for £10 per bag (Premium Craft Crank) or £6 (Buff Stoneware) - you will need 1 or 2 bags for an average portrait or figure. If you prefer, you are wecome to bring your own materials. Firing can be arranged, for a small fee, of finished work that is prepared correctly.
Next series starts on 29th July - £40 for 6 sessions: Thursdays 7-9pm - August 29th, September 5th and 26th and October 3rd, 10th and 17th (no class on 12th and 19th Sept). Please note the dates carefully as there is a break in september due to other commitments. We have a lovely model for this course – she is an excellent subject for a portrait or figure. A maximum of 11 places are available on the course.
