Most of our drawing classes are drop-in sessions - no need to book, just turn up on the day
KIAC runs several life drawing classes, tutored and untutored, at two locations in Sheffield. Most of our drawing classes are drop-in (no need to book) and the price includes basic drawing materials and tea/coffee & biscuits during the break. We have a variety of models who sit for the classes, and each session has both short and long poses for you to draw. Beginners are very welcome at all our classes.
Tutored Life Drawing (drop-in) - Tuesdays 7-9pm at The Drawing Room
This class is now held at the Drawing Room. At these sessions lead by experienced art tutor Jon Cox, you will learn traditional methods of how to represent the human figure through observation and mark making. Jon covers topics such as proportion of the figure, composition, and using equipment including the plumb line. He offers individual help and advice to all during the longer poses. £8 (students £6) Please contact Jon on 07891 008079
Untutored Life Drawing (drop-in) - Wednesdays 7-9pm at KIAC
On Wednesday we have background music while we draw in the informal surroundings of KIAC’s education space. After the class we adjourn to the local pub (for those that want to come along) so it’s also a great way to meet up and get to know people. £6 (students £4)
Tutored Life Drawing (pre-booked 6-week course) - Thursdays 7-9pm at KIAC
This course is not running at present. Art tutor Jon Cox, delivers a structured course over six 2-hour sessions on Thursday evenings. Topics covered include proportion and perspective, chiaroscuro (the effect of contrasting light and shadow), foreshortening of the limbs and body, composition, and various mark making techniques. £60 for a six-week course (students £48). Please contact Jon on 07891 008079
Untutored Life Drawing (drop-in) - Sundays 11am-1pm at the Broomhall Centre
The Sunday class is long-established, originally set up by an enterprising student and run by KIAC members for the last 4 years or so. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful, almost meditative sometimes, and people are friendly. You can have a look round at people’s work and a chat during the break and maybe pick up some tips from others if you want to. £6 (students £4)
