I have been fascinated by the beauty of stone ever since I found a tiny fragment of rock crystal in my back garden when I was about ten years old, but though already developing a passing interest in sculpture I didn’t really make any connection between stone as a material and sculpture at the time.

In fact having studied art and art history at A level I went on to study geology for my degree, and it was only much later when I was going through a creative phase in life did I decide to combine my knowledge of the properties of natural stone together with my interest in art and turn to stone carving. I have now been carving mostly in stone for over 20 years.
